INUNDATION DISTRICT
In a time of rising seas and intensifying storms, one of the world's wealthiest, most-educated cities made a fateful decision to spend billions of dollars erecting a new district along its coast - on landfill, at sea level. Unlike other places imperiled by climate change, this neighborhood of glass towers housing some of the world's largest companies was built well after scientists began warning of the threats, including many at its renowned universities. The city, which already has more high-tide flooding than nearly any other in the United States, called its new quarter the Innovation District. But with seas rising inexorably, and at an accelerating rate, others are calling the neighborhood by a different name: Inundation District.
Gentrification comes in many forms. On the tiny island of Martha’s Vineyard, where presidents and celebrities vacation, trophy homes threaten to destroy the island’s unique character. Twelve years in the making, ONE BIG HOME follows one carpenter’s journey to understand the trend toward giant houses. When he feels complicit in wrecking the place he calls home, he takes off his tool belt and picks up a camera. Bumping up against angry homeowners and builders who look the other way, he works with his community and attempts to pass a new bylaw to limit house size.
One Big Home
"A poignant film that delves into the significance of preserving not just homes but the stories they hold. Like the rings in a tree, every layer of a home captures the essence of our lives, a powerful reminder that our homes are more than just structures; they are the keepers of our most cherished memories and emotions."
Life Rings
The compelling story of how climate change has dramatically transformed the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge situated on Morris Island and continuously threatens the greater Cape Cod coastal region is one that needs to be shared. This thought-provoking documentary, created by Jan Crocker and Tim Wood, delves deeply into those challenges while highlighting the impact on both the natural environment and local communities.
