Historic Home Evaluations
Protect Our Past (POP) offers an Interior and Exterior Evaluation of Historic Houses!
GOAL: To educate historic homeowners, sellers of historic homes, buyers of historic homes and anyone else who cares (or does not care) about historic homes in order to save and restore them.
This service involves an architectural conservator specializing in historic building forensics and/or a qualified preservation architect to provide a visual evaluation of your home.
Compensation As Required
For owners of private historic residents: hourly basis at a rate of $150/hour
Non-profit institutions and municipal entities such as Historical
Commissions, Zoning Board of Appeals: mutually agreed minimal rate
POP also offers a free similar service to those considering demolishing an historic structure.
Results
People are pleasantly surprised to learn the historical value of
the interior and exterior of their historic homes!
What To Expect
A full review of accessible conditions and will not involve any removals of finishes.
Will include an overall assessment of the building’s integrity, illustrations
of the evolution from the original building core outward.
General comments of the age of the core and additions/alterations.
Important historic features will be identified, such as examples of historic framing, trim details, masonry, nail types, saw marks, etc.
All elements will be examined to help understand the period of the original structure and later changes or additions.
On-site oral presentation and/or include a written report.
Historic Home Age Qualifications
MASSACHUSETTS: 75 years or older (Thus, homes build in and before 1949 are historic).
NATIONALLY: 50 years or older (Thus, homes built in and before 1975 are historic).
