Timber & Time

Date: June 17
Time: 10:30AM
Where: Marconi Maritime Museum, Chatham, MA

Join Protect Our Past for the launch of Timber & Time — a new series exploring the history, craftsmanship, and future of New England architecture and historic preservation.

This begins with a screening of POP’s short film Life Rings, followed by a discussion with POP founder Ellen Briggs and preservationist conservator Fred Ecker.

Together, they will discuss:

  • The rapid loss of historic buildings on Cape Cod
  • The disappearance of irreplaceable old-growth wood
  • Why historic craftsmanship matters today
  • The future of preservation of restoration

This also includes a hands-on demonstration comparing historic and modern building materials, allowing attendees to see and feel the difference firsthand.

Through stories, experience, and conversation, Timber & Time invites the community to better understand the value of preserving the built environment around us and the costs of ignoring and delaying restoration.
